Why I'm a Calvinist + Compatibilist
I watched a video that was posted on a Christian YouTube channel, What is the best argument against Calvinism?
It was a strongly philosophical (not biblical) reason to rejected Calvinism, based on the notion of human free will. The synergist must abandon the Bible to argue for God not determining the future. It was a disheartning argument.
My response…
The best argument for Calvinism:
If God can't control/determine the future, He can't promise us anything regarding the future, as it relates to human history. Or worse, we can't be certain of any of His promises (that relate to humanity), and that leads us to have reasons not to trust Him (faith).
Obviously, the above conclusion is untenable and unbiblical, but it is the only conclusion left for the consistent synergist. The 6-point Calvinist (monergist) understands that humanity is free to choose according to our nature, but not free to thrawt God's plans.
God determines the future, yet we freely (willingly) choose our path. See Isaiah 10, Acts 4, Romans 9, etc. I don't write the mail, I just deliver it.
